Your happy customers leave smiling and say nothing. The one who waited too long writes three paragraphs that night. Here's how to get your review link, what Google allows when you ask, what happens when you report a bad review, and how to get every customer asked without doing it by hand.
It takes about a minute, and you only do it once.

An honest side by side. They all use the same link. The difference is who does the asking, and whether it keeps happening.
The Review Engine is its own service, free to try for two weeks. It does the asking and the answering for you.
Reviews get you chosen. Ranked. keeps the rest of your Google profile working, on its own or alongside the Review Engine.

No, a business can't delete a review itself. You can report it if it breaks Google's rules, for example if it's fake, spam or about the wrong business. Google checks it, usually within several days, and decides. If it stays, you can appeal once.
Usually Google's spam filter took them down, and Google admits it sometimes removes genuine reviews by mistake. Reviews that came from a reward, from staff or from one person using several accounts get removed on purpose. If real ones vanished, contact Google Business Profile support.

CCS treats fake reviews as an unfair trade practice under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act. In September 2026 it took action against 45 businesses that admitted buying them, and they had to publish a public apology for six months. Google also removes fake reviews. This is a summary, not legal advice.

Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking, along with how relevant your profile is and how close the searcher is. Nobody can promise you a top spot, and Google says you can't pay for one.
You don't have to, but Google says replying shows you value feedback, and future customers read the replies. Keep thank-yous short and spend your time on the reviews that raise a problem or a question.
